MEMPHIS, Tennessee (Ticker) -- Derrick Rose is the latest in a
handful of freshman finding the prospects of playing the NBA too
great.
Rose plans to forgo his remaining three years of eligibility and
enter the NBA draft, according to a report from ABC affiliate
WPTY-TV.
According to the TV station, Rose pulled aside one of this
teammates over the weekend and told him that of his plans to
leave school. Rose also told the teammate that he plans to sign
with agent Arn Tellem, an action that would eliminate any
chance of him coming back to school.
Returning to school would be unthinkable even if Rose did not
get representation, as the 6-3 point guard is expected to be
taken among the first two picks.
Already expected to be a one-and-done player before he decided
to join the Tigers, Rose elevated his status during the NCAA
Tournament, averaging 20.8 points in six games as Memphis
reached its first title game since 1973.
The news of Rose's inclusion in the NBA draft comes a day after
Kansas State's Michael Beasley officially announced his
intentions to turn pro. There is a very strong chance that
Beasley could be taken No. 1 overall.
Southern California's O.J. Mayo and Indiana's Eric Gordon are
two other freshman that have already announced. Both are
expected to be selected within the top 10.
