STATE COLLEGE, Pennsylvania (Ticker) -- Penn State linebacker
Sean Lee could miss the entire season after suffering a serious
knee injury during Friday's practice, the school announced.
Projected as a likely all-American candidate, Lee tore the
anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, according to Dr.
Wayne Sebastianelli, Penn State's director of athletic medicine.
Lee will have surgery in the next two to four weeks, then will
face a rehabilitation that will take up to nine months,
according to Sebastianelli.
A senior academically, Lee played as a true freshman in 2005 and
has a red-shirt season available.
"I have a responsibility to the team to do everything I can this
year in what might be a non-conventional way," he said. "I have
to turn this into a positive. It's a bump in the road."
Lee earned all-Big Ten Conference second-team status last year,
recording 138 tackles, which ranks fifth on the school's
all-time single season list. With 239 career tackles, he needs
17 to crack's the school top 10.
Penn State is coming off a 9-4 season that included a 24-17 win
over Texas A&M in the Alamo Bowl.
"I'm excited about the team we have and the kind of season we
can have," Lee added. "It's a great opportunity for a young
guy."
