Former coach Larry Smith dies

PHOENIX (Ticker) -- Former Arizona and Southern California
coach Larry Smith died at his home in Tucson, Arizona on Monday.
He was 68.
Family members told the Arizona Republic that Smith passed away
after a battle with leukemia and lymphoma. He was diagnosed with
leukemia in 1999.
Smith, who also coached at Tulane and Missouri, posted a career
mark of 143-126-7. He retired after a 3-8 season with Missouri
in 2000.
Smith posted a 48-28-3 record in seven seasons at Arizona from
1980-86. He is perhaps best known for starting a 10-game winning
streak against Arizona State - the Wildcats' archrival - that
ran from 1982-1991.
Smith left Arizona following a 30-21 victory over North Carolina
in the 1986 Aloha Bowl.
He posted a 44-25-3 record in six seasons at Southern California
but won only one of five bowl games.
